Doonbeg Golf Club

Chosen for his “least disturbance philosophy,” The Doonbeg golf site was designed by two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman.

  • Par 72
  • 6,361 Yards

Spanning 1.5 miles of crescent shaped beach and century-old sand dunes, the course offers views across the Atlantic from the green, the fairway, or tee of 16 of the 18 holes Variations in wind speed and direction ensure the course plays differently each and every time. It is expected that an 18-hole round of golf at Doonbeg will take no more than 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The Par-72 layout features a single loop of nine holes out and nine back, playing 6,885 yards from the back tees. The most natural routing within the existing dunes resulted in an uncommon combination of five par 3s and five par 5s. To allow for a range of conditions and abilities most holes feature five or more tee locations.

"I thought this would be the last chance in my life to get a site like this to build on: the sand dunes, the water, the beach, the wind blowing at 40 knots, the one thing I said when we started was, 'Guys, I am not going to Americanize this golf course, not one single foreign blade of grass.' Once we laid out the fairways, I just started mowing the grass that was there. The only major dirt we moved was for the clubhouse pad." - Greg Norman

Local Knowledge
  • Located half an hour south of Lahinch
  • Marvel at the par three 14th where the green is perched above the beach but beware, the prevailing winds from the Atlantic will have a big say on your club choice. It can be anything from a half wedge to a 5 iron for the 100 yard shot.
